SAIV Elects New President at the 114th AGM and Seminar
The South African Institute of Valuers (SAIV) hosted its highly anticipated 114th National Annual General Meeting (AGM), Seminar, and Networking Dinner at the exquisite Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. The event, held from the 18th – 19th May , brought together professionals from the property industry across South Africa. With a captivating speaker lineup and the theme of “Sustainability in the Built Environment, Property Market, and Valuation Profession”, the event included discussions on critical issues affecting the sector and proposed solutions for its growth and development.
One of the event’s highlights was the election of Dianne De Wet as the new President of the SAIV, following on from her previous role as Vice President. In her inspiring acceptance speech, De Wet urged SAIV members to engage with the institute, emphasizing the SAIV’s commitment to serve and support them. She stated, “Remember, we are here to serve you, our members, as best as possible.” The SAIV looks forward to De Wet’s contributions in her new role and looks forward to her positive impact on the organization and the industry.
A professional Valuer with Massel Property Services based in KZN, Dianne embarked on her career in property valuation as a career change, drawn to the industry due to her passion for real estate. She started as an estate agent and later obtained her national diploma in property valuation from UNISA. De Wet joined the SAIV as a student member during her studies and qualified as a Valuer in 2009. She served two terms as a Council Member of the South African Council of Property Valuers Profession, and holds an MBA from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her impressive background and experience make her an ideal choice to lead the SAIV into the future.
When asked to identify a pressing issue in the property valuation industry, De Wet highlighted the shortage of valuers as a significant challenge. She expressed her desire to address this problem through successful mentorship programs that expedite the entry of young valuers into the profession.
In addition, the SAIV elected Kobus Nel as Vice President for 2023. Nel, a registered professional valuer since 2018, currently works at the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
The event featured industry experts who shared their insights and expertise and showcased notable presentations on industry topics. Their contributions added depth and knowledge to the discussions surrounding sustainability and the future of the built environment.
