University Orientation Week is often characterised by new ventures and opportunities. For students, it’s about new friends, new experiences and self discovery. But an even more pivotal part of that, is the starting of an academic journey that will ultimately shape your career.
This year, the South African institutute of Valuers joined in on the O-week experience by being part of the programmes at the University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Wits University. On the 16th February 2022, Vice-President Natalie Ginsberg, along with Southern Branch Chair Robyn Jackson and Vice Chair Nomahlubi Hewu, presented to the third year BSc Property Studies students at the University of Cape Town. This was followed by a presentation at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) on the 23rd February 2022. President Malusi Mthuli and General Manager, Lerato Pooe accepted the invitation to present and promote the Institute at Wits University on the 1st March 2022. It was wonderful to see Wits University abuzz with student excitement as they presented to the 1st-year students in the School of Construction Economics and Management at the Great Hall.
We were happy to see an engaging crowd from all the Universities as the students asked a lot of questions about Valuations as a career and about the Institute.
This forms part of our continued efforts to promote the Institute and the profession by offering pertinent information to future valuers.
We look forward to seeing some of the students joining the valuation profession and wish them a successful academic year ahead.
