Dear Valued Members,

As the year draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on an eventful and productive 2024 for the South African Institute of Valuers. Your support and engagement have been instrumental in our shared successes, and I am pleased to share some of the year’s highlights:

  1. Ethical Questionnaire Initiative
This year saw the introduction of the ethical questionnaire, an important step in reinforcing ethics and integrity within the valuation profession. As part of the annual subscription process in June, Members were required to complete this questionnaire before receiving their 2024/25 membership certificates. Thank you for embracing this important step toward upholding the profession’s values.
  2. MISA Training Collaboration
In partnership with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering – Professional Development and Projects (SAICE-PDP), we provided training to municipal employees through the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agency Program. To date, more than 120 delegates have participated, with two more sessions scheduled under the current contract. Our most recent course was hosted in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. A special thanks to Janet Channing for her dedication to this initiative.
  3. Real Estate Market Analysis Course
We partnered with Professor Samuel Azasu and Wits Commercial Enterprise to provide the Real Estate Market Analysis short course. The overwhelmingly positive feedback has encouraged us to plan another intake in 2025— details to follow soon.
  4. Student Bursary Program
We proudly changed the lives of several students through our bursary program, continuing to support the next generation of valuation professionals. Since 2016 SAIV has funded over R755 000,00 to some 29 deserving students.
  5. Events
A total of 16 events were hosted in 2024, with 74 approved CPD hours. We’re proud to remain the leading service provider for valuation-related training. Our events featured a diverse lineup of expert speakers from various professional backgrounds, ensuring that you stay informed about the latest issues and trends affecting the valuation profession. To not only support your ongoing professional development but also provide valuable opportunities to gain insights from thought leaders and industry pioneers.
Some notable events were the Southern Branch George seminar which returned to George after a long hiatus. Showing our efforts to reaching and serving all our Members far and wide.
We’re also thrilled to announce that Natex has chosen the Central Branch for the 2025 National AGM, to be held in Bloemfontein on 8-9 May 2025 after many years.
  6. Mentorship Program Support
Through partnerships with Lightstone and Rode Publications and Media, our unemployed mentees have been provided free access to these valuable resources. These tools have significantly contributed to their efficiency within the Mentorship Program. We are extremely grateful for this partnership. A special thanks to all our Members who have supported the programme via their time and finances. Your dedication is truly inspiring.
Additionally, Rode Publications and Media has in addition given a 10% discount for all SAIV Members for access to their property analysis and trends report.
  7. Women in Valuation Webinar
In August, we celebrated Women’s Month by hosting a well-attended webinar addressing the opportunities and challenges for women in the property valuation sector. Over 250 participants joined, highlighting the growing interest and importance of this conversation.
  8. Advancing Global Standards
Our president, Di de Wet, met with the CEO of IVSC, Nicholas Talbot and Molefi Kubuzie, IVSC Tangible Asset Board Member and former president of the SA Council of the Properties Valuers Profession (SACPVP) to discuss South Africa’s regulatory landscape and IVS compliance. This meeting underscored our commitment to advancing global valuation standards.
  9. Promoting the Profession
Visits by the various Branches to the Universities of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Free State and Cape Peninsula University of Technology introduced students to the valuation profession as a career of choice.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are thrilled to announce the V20 Conference and Summit to be held in Cape Town in October 2025, which promises to be a cornerstone event. President Di de Wet shared her experience of the 2024 conference which was held in Sao Paula, Brazil. You can read more about it here.

In closing, I extend my heartfelt thanks to our branch executives, the national executive committee, and the SAIV staff for their dedication. Most importantly, I thank you, our Members, for your unwavering support and commitment to our shared mission.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous festive season and a prosperous New Year.

Warm regards,
Lerato
